Matte Painting

The late, great Albert Whitlock was responsible for some of the most memorable matte paintings on TV and in movies. I love this photo of him next to this massive painting he created for the 1981 film Ghost Story (the one above Whitlock's is the lost city of Atlantis that I created digitally)

Technology will continue to advance, making things easier (and taking up less space) for artists, but ultimately the success or failure of the piece will depend on the innate talent of the one creating the piece.
